Federal Way has seen several significant car accidents resulting in injury, property damage, and road closures in 2024. These three recent incidents are of note:
On the morning of February 29th, a man sustained life-threatening injuries after being struck by a motorist on SW 356th St. in Federal Way. He was transported to the hospital in critical condition. Though the driver was not intoxicated, he may have been speeding or otherwise driving recklessly.
On March 7th, three members of a construction crew on I-5 in Federal Way were injured when a car crashed through their work site. This incident is far from the first of its kind in Washington—in January, a driver suspected of DUI crashed through a work zone on a portion of I-5 in Vancouver, sending six workers to the hospital.
On April 25th, three separate motor vehicle accidents blocked northbound lanes of I-5 in Federal Way, causing a backup more than five miles long. One of the accidents involved a semi-truck with a trailer, which ejected debris across the road. Five vehicles were involved in total. Fortunately, no one was injured.
