Nearly eight months after the Sumner Police Department announced via Twitter that an investigation is underway regarding the Sumner High School boys’ varsity basketball coach, charges have finally been filed against Jacob “Jake” Jackson by the Pierce County Prosecutor’s Office.  Jackson has been charged with ten counts of felony and gross misdemeanor criminal conduct.   The specific counts as listed in the charging documents are:  one count of Child Rape in the Third Degree; two counts of Child Molestation in the Third Degree; one count of Sexual Misconduct with a Minor in the First Degree; one count of Indecent Exposure; and five counts of Communication with a Minor for Immoral Purposes.  Jackson is scheduled to be arraigned in Pierce County Superior Court on May 11, 2023.

Tacoma attorney Loren Cochran, who is representing victims and their families in civil suits against Jackson, said, “the families are relieved he has finally been charged.”  “However,” Cochran added, “it’s troubling that Jake Jackson has victimized so many in the community, and yet he is being allowed to surrender, instead of being arrested, like anyone else would have been.”  Cochran also said that this is only another step in the process of finding answers as to how this man was able to inflict such tremendous harm for so long without accountability until now.
